ABOUT SPOKE + SPOOL

Spoke + Spool is a new clothing label tailored for cyclists by Alia Parker and Laura Pike.

Spoke + Spool’s unique garments are handmade from recycled second-hand clothing. Designed with a focus on functionality and purpose, this is a range for the inner-city commuter who chooses to move on two wheels.

The principle of sustainable reuse is fundamental to Spoke + Spool and has guided us through each stage of design and production. Spoke + Spool was developed as an offshoot of Laura and Alia’s design studies at CoFA in Paddington.

Spoke + Spool: duality of style and function for the inner city Sydney commuter.

The aim of Spoke + Spool is to provide cycle friendly articles for men and women that are purpose built but not visually exclusive as cycle wear, ie. One can be comfortable and visible while cycling (without wearing knicks and a fluoro vest) by wearing an alternative that is equally suited for life off the bike after arriving at any given destination.

In achieving this, Spoke + Spool focuses on transformability, reflectivity, mapping, navigation, considerations of inevitable perspiration, ease of movement etc.

As cycling is itself a carbon neutral activity, spoke + spool endeavours to be as resourceful and ecologically sound as possible by reusing superior second hand and vintage clothing and fabrics from which the designs are sprung. The aim is to use as little factory-new products as humanly possible, which results in one off low-tech pieces forming a collection of unique concoctions that are unusual in style, as well as comfortable, practical and durable.
